Single-Sole Heels: The end of the platform era?

January 9, 2013 in Trends

It’s amazing how trends evolve. Not in the fashion world, but in your head. What used to be  the it piece, your go-to favorite slowly shifts until you can no longer look at it without thinking “outdated” in your head.

I’ve found that evolution happening to me with platform heels. It used to be love. I couldn’t get enough. I couldn’t imagine living without them. And then?

I’m not even sure the moment it changed, but I think it started at least two seasons ago. Single-sole heels that once screamed “90′s power suit!” to me were now looking more and more appealing. More feminine, demure, chic. And platforms? More clunky, over-the-top and, for lack of a better word, clompy.

Now I’m not saying that I hate all platforms. There are still plenty out there that draw my attention. But the majority of my high-heel lust has definitely been directed at the sleeker single-sole heels. It’s just a nod to the evolutionary nature of fashion, I suppose. And certainly part of the fun.

How do you feel about platforms versus single-soles? Do you have a preference? Are there any other trends that you’ve recently fallen out of love with?
